KUNSTFILMTAGE DÜSSELDORF 2014
hosted by “blinkvideo”
Initiated in 2007 by artists, the Kunstfilmtage is a film and video art event staged in Düsseldorf. It was founded by Susanne Fasbender and was organised on repeated occasions as a twelve-hour film marathon in the theatre auditorium of the artists’ association Künstlerverein Malkasten. This year the Kunstfilmtage – the 5th so far, conceived under the direction of Katharina Schmitt – will be moving to new venues on and around Worringer Platz square. In addition to video installations to be hosted by gallery, bistro and project spaces round about the railway station, and a supporting programme of events, this year’s festival will focus on screening a wide-ranging film programme, which will be shown on 1 November in the UFA Palast Düsseldorf, one of the city’s largest blockbuster cinemas.
An appetite for the unorthodox also characterises the concept of the Kunstfilmtage. Besides an open call for submissions, the festival is based on curated film blocks and recommendations by co-curators, among them Oriane Durand, Peter Doig, Mischa Kuball, Michel Metayer and Marcel Odenbach. For the open call jury the festival succeeded in securing Alexandra Buchetmann, Liam Murtaugh, Sabine Maria Schmidt and Alex Wolff. Furthermore, in the night of 1 to 2 November, this year’s Kunstfilmtage party organised by Alex Wissel will be held in Agi’s Bistro, featuring the “Final Singles Club Film Shoot”.
Sponsor of the Kunstfilmtage Düsseldorf is the Verein für Kunst und Filmkultur Düsseldorf. The project is also supported by the Kulturamt Düsseldorf, the Arts and Culture Foundation of the Stadtsparkasse Düsseldorf, as well as numerous private and business sponsors..
The selection from the festival’s various film blocks that has been curated for blinkvideo by Sabine Maria Schmidt presents an outstanding and correspondingly wide-ranging cross-section of current and international positions, with particular emphasis on the art film scene in the Rhineland.
